About Sylvester Properties

How We Got Here

Sylvester Properties opened its doors in 2015 with one office on Tyne Road in Stanley, a clear idea of the kind of agent it wanted to be, and a lot of hard work ahead.

From the beginning, the approach was straightforward: know the local market inside out, treat every client like a person rather than a transaction, and do the job properly every single time. That approach has not changed. What has changed is the scale of what we do.

A decade on, we have two offices, a team of seven people, over 221 five-star Google reviews and more than 100 landlords across the region trusting us to manage their properties. We have been recognised with industry awards in 2024, 2025 and 2025/26. And in 2026, we appeared on BBC One’s Homes Under the Hammer, which was a genuinely brilliant experience and a real reminder of why we love what we do.

We are still the same independent, local agency we were when we started. The Stanley office is still now on Station Road. Becky is still at the helm. And we still care about every single move we help with, whether it is a first-time buyer finding their footing or a landlord building a portfolio.

As Seen on BBC One: Homes Under the Hammer

In 2026 we featured in Series 28 of BBC One’s Homes Under the Hammer, in an episode titled ‘Use Your Senses!’ The programme followed the story of one of our County Durham properties and the journey from auction to renovation. It was a fantastic opportunity to show what is possible in this part of the world, and a real highlight for the whole team.

Why People Choose Sylvester Properties

There are plenty of estate agents in County Durham. Here is why our clients keep coming back and recommending us to the people they know:

  • We are genuinely local. Both offices are in the heart of the communities we serve, and our team lives and works here. That local knowledge makes a real difference.
  • We are independent. We are not part of a national chain. There is no head office telling us how to do things. That means we can be flexible, personal and completely focused on what is right for our clients.
  • We are a proper team. Everyone on our team genuinely cares about the job. From Becky to our newest apprentice Keira, the same standards apply across everything we do.
  • We are honest. We will not tell you what you want to hear just to win your instruction. We will give you an accurate valuation, realistic expectations and a straight answer to every question.
  • We are proud of our reputation. Over 221 five-star reviews and counting. We think that says more than any description of ourselves could.

Meet the Team

We are a team of seven who between us cover sales, lettings, management, marketing and everything in between. Here is a bit about each of us:

Becky, Director

Becky has been involved in the North East property market for over 15 years and is the founder and Director of Sylvester Properties. She oversees both the Stanley and Consett offices, and can regularly be found travelling the length and breadth of the North East to make sure everything runs smoothly and every client gets the service they deserve. Sylvester Properties is very much Becky’s vision, and that vision has not wavered since day one.

Katherine, General Manager

Katherine was Sylvester Properties’ very first apprentice when the flagship Stanley branch opened back in 2015. After gaining experience elsewhere, she rejoined the family as a Sales and Lettings Executive and has since progressed to General Manager, overseeing the day-to-day running of both the Stanley and Consett offices. If you have ever been helped by someone who just makes everything feel sorted, that is probably Katherine.

Anna, Sales Manager

Anna started out as an in-house apprentice before joining us full-time as a Sales Executive in 2021. She has since worked her way up to Sales Manager, and is also the person behind all of our property photography and social media content. Anna is the team’s tech specialist, and her passion for property and commitment to customer service have made her an absolutely essential part of what we do.

Heather, Lettings Manager

Heather joined the team in 2023, bringing with her over a decade of experience in property sales and management. Her dedication to both landlords and tenants is second to none, and her attention to detail is the kind that genuinely protects people’s interests and investments. Whether it is a complicated maintenance issue or a tenancy renewal, Heather handles it all with the same level of care.

Faye, Lettings Consultant

Faye joined the Sylvester Properties family in 2025, bringing over five years of estate agency experience with her. Her genuine enthusiasm for making the letting process a good experience for everyone involved, landlords and tenants alike, is clear from the moment you meet her.

Keira, Lettings Apprentice

Keira is the newest member of the team, joining us in August 2025 as our full-time Lettings Apprentice. She is developing a strong understanding of the lettings process quickly, always willing to take on new responsibilities, and consistently delivering excellent service to landlords and tenants. If you have recently moved into one of our rental properties, you will probably be getting to know Keira very soon.

Billy, Head of Customer Accounts

Billy is head of customer accounts here at Sylvester Properties. Billy has years’ worth of experience in cultivating customer relations. He uses this skill daily in the office as our client greeter and accompanied viewer. In this spare time, Billy enjoys chasing his tail and pestering the postman.

Our Accreditations

We are proud to be a fully accredited, compliant and transparent agency. Here is what that means in practice:

  • Propertymark member: We are accredited by Propertymark, the leading professional body for the property sector. This means your money is protected through our Client Money Protection scheme.
  • Tenancy Deposit Scheme (TDS): All deposits held by us are protected through the TDS, giving tenants peace of mind and landlords a clear process for any deposit disputes.
  • Property Redress Scheme (PRS): Our independent redress scheme membership (PRS001534) means that if a complaint cannot be resolved internally, there is a free, impartial route of appeal available to clients.
  • PayProp: We use PayProp for rent collection and financial management, providing complete transparency for landlords on every payment.
